Investigators looking at race, religion in church fires
The spate of church fires in rural Alabama is motivated by hate, a state official said today, but it's not clear whether arsonists are choosing their targets on the basis of race or religion. "Obviously, somebody or somebodies are interested in burning down churches, whether it's hate against a race or a religion in general, we don't know," state assistant insurance commissioner Ragan Ingram told CNN.

Jill Carroll's kidnappers set 'final deadline'
The kidnappers of U.S. journalist Jill Carroll have set a February 26 deadline for their demands to be met or she will be killed, Alrai Television in Kuwait reported citing sources close to the kidnappers. It would be the second deadline set by her abductors, who say they want the United States to release all female prisoners in custody in Iraq.
